Zanzibar — Zanzibar's under 17 soccer team made an impressive show during their friendly match against Egyptian top flight side Petro Jet that ended in a 1-1 draw at the Olympic Stadium in Cairo over the weekend.

The Karume Boys who are on one month training displayed short and intricate passes to pin their opponents for much of the match, to the amazement of spectators.

The Karume Boys were the first to open the score after 19 minutes through Abdallah Seif who sent in a swinging corner ball that curled into the nets.

The hosts leveled through a spot kick awarded four minutes before the final whistle, and Seyyid Ahmed made no mistake, slotting home past custodian Abdallah Mohammed.

Suleiman Kassim, Abdallah Seif and Abdulhgani Gulam displayed impressive soccer for the Zanzibar side.

Head coach Badr el din Haddad Abdul-Aziz, an Egyptian trainer sent by the Egyptian authorities to help soccer improvement in the Isles, said he was satisfied with the boys' performance.

He expressed disappointment on poor officiating by the Egyptian referee.

The Isles youth side today meets another Egyptian top flight side, Ismailia on their local turf of Ismailia.

Out of five matches the Isles team have played, they drew three, won one and lost as many.

In a related development, top flight side Ennpi has expressed strong interest in recruiting Karume Boys players, Abdallah Mohammed and Abdulghani Gulam.

Ennp officials said they are now working out transfer formalities through the Tanzania Football Federation to secure the players' signatures.
