Namibia: NWR Widens Horizons of Rural Children

Eleven primary school children from previously disadvantaged backgrounds are being exposed to Namibia's protected areas while at the same learning about the country's flora and fauna and the importance of preserving the environment.
They are the first beneficiaries of the recently launched Enviro-Kidz programme of Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR).
The aim of the programme is to instil love and appreciation of the environment in the younger generation.
NWR says 10 of the first beneficiaries are from the Kavango Region and one is from the Oshikoto Region.
On April 21, the group travelled to the Etosha National Park, where they observed wild animals and learned about their habits.
They also visited the Etosha Ecological Institute and learnt about conservation and research activities in the park.
The next stop was the Waterberg Plateau Park, where they learnt more about local animals and plants, particularly endangered species, on a game drive.
In Windhoek, the children were taken on a tour of historic sites and met the Minister of Environment and Tourism, Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, and the Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Rosalia Nghidinwa.
"For the majority of participants, this has been their first visit to the capital and for all participants, their first visit to the protected areas," said NWR.
From Windhoek, the group will head for Sossusvlei before returning home.

Two Enviro-Kidz educational excursions will be undertaken every year.
