23 May 2008

For the first time, a holder of an advance diploma in Software Engineering from the Aptech Computer Education Centre in Accra can access a scholarship facility estimated at about £8,000 from the University of Plymouth, United Kingdom.

The facility is in addition to already existing partnerships and alliances that Aptech has with several international universities and global Information and Communication Technology (ICT) leaders, which provide students with a competitive edge.

The opportunity comes on the heels of "A Date with University of Plymouth" which came off on Tuesday at the premises of the Aptech Centre at Kokomlemle, Accra. It was a visitation by officials of Plymouth, who were led by Mr Peter Ingram, Head of International Office, to the Accra centre operated by Digitronix Systems Limited, a leading Information and Communication Technology (ICT) company.

Some 200 students - both present and potential of Aptech were present to listen to presentations from the Plymouth team about opportunities that exist at the university for graduates from all Aptech Computer Certified Professional (ACCP) programmes.

In an interview on Wednesday, Mr Michael Yamoah, Marketing Officer of Aptech Accra, told Public Agenda that the facility will cover only tuition and will be opened to all advance diploma holders on competitive basis.

He stressed that eligibility for the facility depended on the successful completion of the three-year advance diploma, which is run on a modular basis.

As a leading IT education provider, Aptech has established over 4000 centres spanning 53 countries across five continents. It is consistently working towards enhancing the quality, value and acceptability of the solutions it delivers.

On Tuesday, Mr Eric Akumiah, Head of Aptech Centre, Accra, asserted, "Aptech has the best curriculum for career-oriented professionals."

He mentioned that Aptech is partnering with a number of renowned universities around the world where ACCP graduates can do a year top up and obtain a bachelor degree in IT. "Such a progression makes the graduate have a twofold advantage: professional certification and academic degree."

According to him, this is the sort of qualification most desired by industry.

In line with this, Mr Akumiah invited the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, as well as, other organisations to partner with Aptech in the development of curriculum that is globally acclaimed to meet the country's requirement for ICT capacity building to usher the country into the middle income group.
