A Singaporean expert has advised managers in both private and public institutions to engage more in capacity building programmes for their employees.

Dr Ameen Talib, the Director of the Association of Muslim Professionals of Singapore and director of Strategic Planning and Finance of a Thailand-based company, Cleansthat, said that they would help step up institutional performance management systems.

He was speaking yesterday during a workshop on effective performance management for managers drawn from different institutions at the School of Finance and Banking in Gikondo, Kigali.

The workshop aimed at giving employees necessary skills required to do their daily work especially in the area of innovation.

"Managers need to identify the weaknesses of their staff and provide necessary training required to increase their capacity," Talib said.

Talib said that unless institutions embarked on capacity building mechanisms for their employees, they would not achieve their set targets and financial returns.

"Managers need to change their reward system to motivate their staff to be able to get where they want to be," he added.

Talib is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) as well as the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS).
