Harare — SUNGURA musician Tongai Moyo and his Utakataka outfit returns to Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex tonight hoping to break the jinx at a venue where things have not gone well for them in recent times.
The venue has largely been a good "hunting" ground for homeboy Alick Macheso and the Gospel "first family", Baba na Mai Charamba.
Tonight Tongai teams up with seasoned father of music Oliver Mtukudzi and rising star Sulumani Chimbetu -- who has managed to fill in the void left by his late father, Simon.
Speaking from his Kwekwe base yesterday, Tongai said it was high time they break the myth associated with Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex -- by certainly attracting full capacity crowd.
"This first show with Tuku and Sulumani is just a beginning of breaking the jinx associated with the venue.
"There is really nothing mythical about the venue -- we are certainly going to fill it marking the beginning of a new era," said Tongai.
He said after his musical romance at the venue with Tuku and Sulumani tonight, he would return in a few days time on his own to prove that there is nothing mythical about Aquatic Complex.
"To prove to the whole country, I will certainly have another show at Chitungwiza Aquatic Complex on my own and fill it just like any other musician who has good association with the venue," Tongai said.
Tongai believes tonight's combination works well for music fans as it takes care of three different types of music -- jazz, traditio- nal contemporary, sungura and dendera.
Show promoter Partson Chimbodza of Chipaz Promotions said he had thought of taking Tuku to the ghetto to cater for some who have not had chance to watch him perform at upmarket venues.
"It is high time mudhara Tuku also goes to the ghetto and this is one of the few instances that his gettho followers can watch him perform.
"As for Tongai, I believe the last time he played here the show was not properly organised and I don't think he doesn't have the capacity to fill Aquatic Complex.
"He (Tongai) has to prove his mettle today and in the next show that he is planning -- otherwise there is really nothing mysterious about the Complex but proper planning," he said.
