Kigali — The Rwanda Environmental Management Authority (REMA), held a press conference at the Ministry of Natural Resources offices in Kimihurura Tuesday to highlight and discuss issues central to the forthcoming World Environmental week.

The Director General of REMA, Dr Rose Mukankomeje, called upon the entire public to realize the need to take individual responsibility in protecting and preserving the environment.

"Environmental responsibility is everyone's responsibility, starting from our homes. Expatriates can't impact a lot if people have not played an active role" she said.

She urged all the present stakeholders, who included officials from sectors with a direct impact on the environment, such as transport and manufacturing, to employ environmental friendly measures in their undertakings, using the current technological advancement like recycling and other methods.

The world environmental day this time around will focus on laying strategies for reducing carbon-induced dangers, through changing peoples attitudes, so that only things that don't emit carbon into the sky can be used in a bid to promote eco-friendly consumption.
