The Babylon case has been adjourned to June 17 and 18, following an application by the state counsel, Emmanual Fagbenle, the director of Public Prosecution, for more time to revisit the charges against the accused persons.
When the case resumed on Monday before senior magistrate EF M'Bai of the Brikama Magistrates Court, DPP Fagbenle said the previous charges on the accused persons will be amended and fresh charges will be levelled on some of the accused persons, when the trial resumes on the next adjournment date.
Fagbenle then urged the accused persons to maintain the peace during the course of the trial, noting that the only "rich commodity" The Gambia has is peace.
In his reaction, Lawyer Antouman Gaye, the defence counsel of the accused persons, made no objection to DPP Fangbenle's application, saying that the application was justifiable and would enable the prosecution to identify the accused persons who will continue to be prosecuted and who should be freed.
