Fabakary B. Ceesay, a reporter with the opposition newspaper Foroyaa, was on May 20 and 21, 2008, threatened with abduction and violent attacks by an anonymous caller.
Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) sources in The Gambia report that the caller threatened Ceesay to stop writing government-critical articles or face the consequences.
The call came to Ceesay on two occasions from an undisclosed mobile number. According to the journalist, the caller said: "Fabakary, I warn you. We know you. We know your house, and we are near you right now. We can get hold of you whenever we want. So you better be careful of what you write."
After consulting his colleagues, Ceesay, who is also the Communication and Public Relations Officer of the Network of Human Rights Journalists (NHRJ) in The Gambia, reported the threats to the Serrekunda Police Station on May 26, 2008.

MFWA is deeply concerned about the relentless pressure on journalists in The Gambia under the regime of President Yahya Jammeh. We see the threats against Fabakary Ceesay as an unscrupulous attempt to intimidate the journalist and frighten him to give up his right to free expression.
every one has d right 2 express his or her feeling n should nt be subjected 2 any form of intimidation or attack.it s a shame 4 our young democracy, which we all yarn 4 n any one making such illegal treats against fabakary ceesay, should stop it or d law enforcement authority should act swiftly in order 2 safe life n uphold d rule of democracy.
