Zimbabwe: Vabati Vajehovah to Take Part in HIV, Aids Workshop

2 June 2008

Harare — AWARD-WINNING gospel acapella outfit Vabati VaJehovah will take part in the second edition of the HIV and Aids Exposition to be held in the capital next month.

The rare exposition, which runs from July 16 to 19, is a brainchild of Tibatane/Sibambane Consultancy, a local non-governmental organisation.

It will be held under the theme: "Let's all take the lead in prevention and care. Stop Aids keep the promise."

Roger Jeffrey, of Tibatane/Sibambane Consultancy said they were expecting more than 30 exhibitors to take part in the four-day event that brings together various stakeholders in the fight against HIV and Aids.

He said they had included Vabati VaJehovah in their programme after they complemented them at last year's inaugural event that lived to expectations.

"We have been working together with Vabati VaJehovah, a faith-based organisation, in a motion of behaviour change programme of awareness campaigning in HIV and Aids prevention.

"They are going to help us in advocacy programmes as role models in the prevention of issues to do with faithfulness in view of HIV and Aids.

"Last year, we had a very successful event courtesy of the support we received from several groups, which include the private sector, non-governmenttal organisations, the Govenment and the National Aids Council.

"We also hope that this year's edition will be more bigger as compared to last year."

In an effort to take the expo to the people, Jeffrey said they were staging the exhibition in the First Street Mall.

"We are working in collaboration with the National Aids Council, Harare Metropolitan Province and the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare.

"This year, Dr David Parirenyatwa will be the guest of honour," he said.

He said the showcase was being held in the build up to 2010 World Cup showcase in South Africa, which he said, would bring tourists.
