The Education Department of Firestone Liberia has honored and certificated several of its students for their exceptional academic performance during the first semester of the 2007/2008 academic year.
The colorful program which took place on Friday, May 30, 2008, in the Harbel Field Hall, brought together 179 honorees from schools within the Firestone School System. According to the listing of honorees, students with grade point averages from 96 to 98 percent were placed on the President and Managing Director List; totaling eight honorees.
The Manager List contains 52 students and 119 of the honorees made up the uperintendent List. The company currently owns and operates a school system that comprises 23 schools with over fifteen thousand (15,000) students enrolled at no cost; all of them children of Firestone employees.
Presenting certificates to the first batch of eight honorees that made the President and Managing Director List, Firestone Liberia Controller, Mr. Patrick Rodrigo, thanked the students for a job well done and called on them to continue to strive for academic excellence.
He urged the students to always remember the teachers who are helping to mold their minds saying, the young people are the future of any country. He further assured the students that Management, the teachers and parents were proud of their achievement. The Firestone Liberia Controller then called on the students to continue to grow so that within the next few years they will enter higher institutions of learning such as colleges and universities all over the country and elsewhere in the world.
The Public Affairs Manager of Firestone Liberia, Mr. G. Rufus Karmorh, who presented certificates to honorees on the Manager List, called on the students to study harder than before so as to always form part of the honor roll list throughout the year. Mr. Karmorh also commended the teachers and school authorities of the Firestone School System for their continuous commitment and dedication to duty. "To teach is a difficult task; it involves a lot of sacrifices and you are doing extremely well." The Public Affairs boss noted.
For his part, Production Superintendent David Hiama who awarded certificates to students on the Superintendent List thanked the honorees for the time and efforts put into their studies during the half course of this academic term and called on them to continue in this direction if they are to be successful at the end of the year.
In his statement of appreciation on behalf of his colleagues, Student Ebenezer Gbar of the Division 45 School PM Section lauded Management through the Education Department for the honors bestowed upon them. Student Gbar also expressed gratitude to parents and guardians for their continuous support and encouragement towards their educational sojourn.
Making remarks during the program, the Supervisor of Schools, Mr. Charles G. Massaley praised the students for exhibiting a high degree of academic discipline during the first half of the school year and encouraged them to continue on that line; something he noted will take them to a brighter future.
Mr. Massaley used the occasion to commend teachers of the Firestone School System whom he said have also worked hard to prepare the students for the honors they received. The astute school administrator further called on parents to encourage their children to utilize the educational opportunities being made available through the initiative of the Management of Firestone Liberia by attending and remaining in school for a better future.
The well attended program was graced by representatives of the Management of Firestone Liberia, the honorees from various schools within the Firestone System, parents/guardians of the honorees, invited guests and well wishers.
