Minister of environment, housing and urban development, Arc (Mrs.) Halima Tayo Alao has said that Nigeria will continue to implement the decisions of International Conventions formulated in alleviating the effect of Climate Change globally.
She made this known during a visit by the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Bob Dewar to her office. The minister solicited the collaboration of the British Government in accessing funds earmarked to assist developing countries including Nigeria in addressing its effect in the country.
Speaking further, the minister assured the Ambassador that issues affecting climate change were top on the present administration's agenda. This, she said, informed the need for the establishment of a Special Climate Change Unit in the ministry.
Also speaking at the occasion, minister of state, Chief Chuka Odom called for technical support in the area of housing. According to Chief Odom, government was committed to closing the gap of the housing deficit in the country, while land reforms are going on in order to enhance the living standards of Nigerians.
The British High Commissioner, Bob Dewar assured that his country was ready to partner with Nigeria on issues of adaptation and mitigation of climate change. He added that it was imperative for countries to integrate issues relating to climate change in its planning processes.
