Nigeria: Hausa/Fulani Clash - Sultan Constitutes Peace Committee

In his resolve to permanently put to end the perennial ethnic clashes between the Tivs and their Fulani cattle herdsmen, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Sa'ad, has recommended harsher sanctions against any traditional ruler and local politician whose mediocre leadership brought in crisis.

The Sultan, who doubles as the leader of the Islamic faith in Nigeria, made the call yesterday in Abuja at the closing ceremony of a two- day meeting of the Tiv/ Fulani Peace Committee.
