Luanda — The Japanese government Friday here donated USD 4.3 million to the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), to support the combat to malaria and poliomyelitis in Angola.
The amount will be used in the purchase of products and essential services that will secure the promotion of children's immunisation campaigns, specifically in fighting against malaria and polio, through the distribution of mosquito nets and freezers to keep the vaccines.
The Japanese ambassador to Angola, Susumu Shibata, handed over the moneyto the acting representative of UNICEF in Angola, Geoffrey Wiffin, during a ceremony attended by the Angolan Health minister, Ruben Sicato.
After thanking for the gesture, on behalf of the Angolan government and beneficiaries of the donation, Ruben Sicato recognised Japan's role focussed on the rehabilitation of Josina Machel Hospital and other contributions to the country's development.
