Following the victory of Sen. Barack Obama as presidential candidate of the Democratic Party in US, Obama Africa Support Group has concluded plans to flag off its campaign for him towards the end of this month, ahead of the presidential election scheduled to take place in America in November this year,
On the victory of Senator Barrack Obama in a keenly contested primaries between him and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, the group lauded the leadership and supporters of the Democratic Party by electing an African-American to fly the party's flag.
Coordinator of Obama Africa Support Group, Chief Elvis Agukwe, who disclosed this in Abuja yesterday, said with the Democratic ticket popularly handed over to Obama, 'America has already started enjoying global boost, acceptability and commendation.
'The peace loving people of the world stood still the night Obama emerged victorious as the Democratic Party's flag-bearer and the conclusion we came up with was that America has reclaimed her greatness in world affairs. In fact, America is indeed a great nation with undisputed leadership credentials anchored on justice, equity and fairness."
As part of its programmes to canvass more support for Obama ahead of the November main presidential poll, the group said they would organise public lectures, rallies and talk shows to highlight the leadership potentials, charisma, and pragmatic qualities of the American with African decent.
Still on why Obama is the right man to usher in the change which Americans really deserve, Agukwe reiterated: "Our effort is to help us select the best leadership that will command respect which the world can be proud of. Moreover, we are working for a leadership that can present US as a peace- building nation and not a warring country. Again, we would remind Americans that they made no mistake in choosing Obama as Democratic Party candidate."
"The group is also mobilising other interest Groups from other parts of Africa who have the interest of Obama presidency at heart and also those who are given to making this project a reality."
In one of his talks, the great senator at Oregon noted, "It's great to be back in Oregon . Over the last fifteen months, we've travelled to every corner of the United States . Now I know that if you listen to Washington or pay attention to the pundits, you hear a lot about how divided we are as a people. But that's not what I've found as I've travelled across this great country.
"Everywhere I go, I've been impressed by the values and hopes that we share. In big cities and small towns; among men and women; young and old, black, white and brown, Americans share a faith in simple dreams, a job with wages that can support a family, health care that we can count on and afford, a retirement that is dignified and secure, education and opportunity for our kids, common hopes and American dreams."
