Zimbabwe: The Evils of Sanctions

THE views of the Liberal Democrats are a crystal clear indication of the intended effects of sanctions - kill some to save some.

Mr Nick Clegg candidly acknowledges some people will suffer as a result of what he proposes which to my mind means he is ok to see people die as a result so long as what he envisages prevails.

It is for this very reason I have questioned the opposition party in Zimbabwe with regards to their position on sanctions that have had the greatest effect on the people they say they represent.

In Zimbabwe we do have wolves among the sheep and the wolves are very hungry too. It’s really become politics of the belly, starve them till they vote for who we approve of .

The choices faced by Zimbabweans have simply become a ballot paper that requires an outcome the west wants or mass death. This, my fellow Zimbabweans, is this millennia’s ‘holocaust’ approved by the United States and European Union, seconded by many unwitting Zimbabweans.

If we go back in time to slavery days, it is apparent the Slave Trade with Europeans had black collaborators who provided the slaves for some payment, hence there indeed are some blacks to blame for slavery.

It is a sin when basic human needs are politicized and you have to have an affiliation to some benefactor to feed your family.

Nowadays you do not need a cage to imprison, but a worse incarceration Zimbabweans know only too well is the so-called ‘sanctions’.

In the lead up to the Iraq War, the US and France had a bitter fallout, but did you see any sanctions mooted?

Zimbabweans please note, you do not support the starvation of your kith and kin as the US and France exemplified by agreeing to disagree, yet not take action against each other because they are one people — an admirable quality on their part.

The premise here is not to glorify all things Zanu PF since they have made a lot of blunders and should also be answerable to Zimbabweans.

Both parties have one or another failed us which has left us in this position.

Zanu PF and the MDC should be answerable to Zimbabweans first and foremost not to people who are willing to rape and pillage our dignity. It is sad to hear these so called democrats profess a desire to see more suffering imposed in the form of sanctions, but readily blame the target of their actions for the resultant suffering.

Political parties rise and fall, but Zimbabweans will remain, so we should take pride in our own country and strive to resolve our own problems not make the BBC and Sky News our Broadway providing entertainment for the depraved who are obviously smiling and pointing at blacks killing blacks as a sign of how savage we are.

The way some have hastily predicted worse violence than in Kenya, unfortunately seems to be a desire to see civil war only for them to proclaim, “I told you so”.

We do not need flames of civil war to be fanned, so we need our leaders to compromise and agree on how to feed the hungry and stabilize the country.

If democracy or the fight for it brings more death than joy, then I am afraid democracy is beginning to look like the Grim Reaper in Gucci (designer wear). Grim would be appealing to behold, but still be the ‘Angel of Death’.

Both parties need to get over the colonial hangover and really emancipate themselves from this mental slavery.

If some of the most vocal people are part of a historic system that created our problems in the first place, how can they be trusted to be impartial in the resolution?

You simply do not expect the beneficiary of your life policy to get up from  a beach somewhere in the Bahamas to come and pray for your resurrection which would result him in him losing the riches.

Once again an, "OPINION" article with no mention of nature of the sanctions we hear so much about. Surely it wouldn't be too much to ask for the professional, "journalist" to mention what the sacntions actually are.

Or is he having as much trouble finding any information on sanctions as I am............because there aren't any?

Mugabe should be sanctioned with what he has, personal travel and banking sanctions. His is a rogue regime equal to Burma and no civilised person or country should countenace them. The author should also remember the largest donors to Zimbabwe are the US and UK, it is Mugabe who has stopped all food ans medical aid, so one has to ask who is hurting whom. Tvangorai for being pro personal sanctions that hurt the ruling elite or Mugabe that has imposed sanctions on his own people. The question of financial sanctions are not in question as Zimbabwe (under Mugabe) has not paid his debts to various institutions that they have loans with. Regarding investment, who in their right mind would invest when the government is tring to nationalise everything. Both Burma nad Zimbabwe would receive substantial investment if they had stable rational goverments in charge.

Glyph, You and other anglos and Rhodes (And you know what I mean) have developed a very convenient phobia for the words "sanctions on Zimbabwe". You know and I know that Zimbabwe is under economic sanctions. There is also a USA law passed in congress last year authorizing sanctions on Zimbabwe. Most Africans (not anglos or Rhodes)know there are sanctions and you can talk all you want. You should not be surprised why a lot of us do not trust you. You continually want to deny a fact and continue to engage in you hypocrisy and propaganda. You claim you are a lawyer, and if so, you should be disbarred for your continued lies!!! Remember the time of Lobenguala is gone....no more anglo white dirty tricks.

Why on earth would the Law Society sanction me for expressing the facts as I see them? Where do you think I live? Zimbabwe?

Glyph, I did not think you lived in Zimbabwe! Lucky you! I can see that you have all the time in the world to counter every article on this website your do not agree with, especially with respect to Zimbabwe. Since you are a brilliant lawyer, you can research what the US Senate and congress passed. The UK itself has enacted measures to block Zimbabwe from getting any loans from the UK and continues to advocate such a policy at the IMF. This is not new either and you know that.

I'm at a loss, phiri I'm trying to find any legislation relating to sanctions passed in the US congress last year imposing sanctions on Zimbabwe or even the UK. I have tried all of the best legal databases, HeinOnline, LexisNexis, Westlaw, and yet I cannot seem to find anything when I use the keywords "Zimbabwe" and "sanctions".

Can you tell me why that is?
