Nairobi — The National Dialogue and Reconciliation talks are expected to resume this week.
Sources told the Nation that the talks were likely to resume on Tuesday at the Serena Hotel, although chief mediator Prof Oluyemi Adeniji will not be around to chair it.
Prof Adeniji is in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, for a week to brief the African Union on the progress of the talks after which he will proceed to Nigeria for another week.
He is expected back into the country on June 27. The African Union initiated and is sponsoring the talks to resolve the political crisis facing the country.
Said the source: "The negotiators requested that they resume talks on Tuesday morning, but this is subject to confirmation."
Before they suspended the talks late last month, both the PNU and ODM negotiators said they would only engage in discussions with the Adeniji-led group on a need basis.
New constitution
They also resolved to convene their next meeting after Bills to facilitate a new constitution were enacted by Parliament.
Said Deputy Prime Minister Mr Musalia Mudavadi: "Bearing in mind the extensive consultations required on the roadmap to a new constitution, we have proposed that our next meeting be held after this process is completed and the necessary Bills enacted.
"We shall, however, continue to engage with the mediators on a need basis."
It was, however, not clear if the Bills - the Constitution of Kenya (Review) Bill 2008 and the Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill 2008 - were ready.
Members of the Kenya Law Reform Commission have been working on the two documents, which will be tabled in Parliament when it resumes sitting this month.
Justice minister Martha Karua has said the relevant Bills will be given priority.
