Zimbabwe: Madzibaba, Matsito to Tour Region

7 June 2008

Harare — Madzibaba Nicholas Zakaria will next week join forces with Tedius Matsito for a fortnight's tour of Mozambique and Malawi.

Frontran Promotions, which is run by youthful promoter Notice Chigome, is behind this tour dubbed Kumbuke Tour. Madzibaba Zakaria described the tour as a "huge consolation" to Khiama Boys as the trips come barely a month after the sungura outfit's maiden tour of the United Kingdom was called off at the eleventh hour.

Although he spoke highly on the regional shows, Madzibaba admitted that morale was still low in his camp since the "foiled" trip to the Queendom. "When something bad happens, something good is bound to come up. In my case, my prayers have been answered after Chigome organised a series of shows for us in Malawi and Mozambique.

"In both countries, we command a huge following that have always been asking for our stuff," he said. The left-handed guitarist said he was also glad to be partnered by another polished performer - Matsito - during the tour. "Ngwenya Brothers is a big band and partnering with them for such a demanding schedule means a lot for us. "I feel humbled because we are starting with Mozambique which is also Tedius' country of origin. "In a big way, he will usher us into Mozambique in style. On the other hand, I will do the honours when we cross over to Malawi, which is also my country of origin. "In short, it means that we will exchange a lot during this tour," added Madzibaba.

Matsito was also happy to be taking part in the tour. "We are certainly going there and hopefully, we are going to conquer. Everything is in place as we speak right now. So, we are looking forward to the trip." According to the schedule, the tour begins on June 18 with a show at Madzeka Night Club in Murehwa on their way to Mozambique before the duo proceeds to Nyamapanda Border Post for another gig penciled in for March Motel. After the Nyamapanda affair, the two sungura outfits move to Mozambique and their first stop-over would be in Tete province. The Tete show will be held at Kujeka Motel on June 21 and after that their roadshow goes to Angolia, which borders Malawi and Mozambique. On June 24, the bands head to Njeu before they stage another double in Zomba. On June 27, the bands head for Blantyre for a rare treat at Chez Ntemba Night Club.

Still in Blantyre, the bands will also hold another show at Lundi Night Club on their way to Zimbabwe. On June 30, the groups make another stopover at Madzeka Night Club in Mutoko on their way to Harare. Chigome, the Frontran Promotions boss said he was happy to be involved in the tour that brings together Zimbabweans in Malawi and Mozambique on song and dance

"It's a great honour for me to be involved in this tour and it means the company is growing. "Having organised some shows in South Africa and Botswana, it also shows that we can make it as a company with the deserving artistes," he said.
