A new media group, Media Female Association (MEFA) which has a focus to address issues surrounding women in the media morally and socially has been established in the country.
The decision to establish the group was reached by a team of women, working within media organizations who saw the need to identify with each other apart from just writing and reporting the news.
During their meeting, the group set up an interim body that is to be headed by Mrs. Helen Nah-Nwoko of the Inquirer Newspaper while Mrs. Grace Miller of the Public Agenda, will serve as Secretary-General.
Addressing the meeting over the weekend, at the offices of The Inquirer in Monrovia, Mrs. Nwoko stressed the need for women to unite and put aside their differences.
According to her, she will take the group to all of the media houses in Monrovia and its environs to get the full participation of not only female journalists but all women working within the media.
She pointed out that while it is true that all of the women working with media institutions are not writing and reporting the news, the need still exists for them to meet and get acquainted, since they are all working towards one goal.
Following series of discussions, the women adjourned until next meeting, which is scheduled for the second Saturday in July at 1:00 p.m. and that it would be held at the offices of the Public Agenda on Broad and Gurley Streets.
