Liberia Action Network on Small Arms Celebrates Global Action Week

Monrovia — The Liberia Action Network on Small Arms (LANSA) is celebrating the Global Week of Action against Small Arms (June 2 – 9, 2008).

The Global Week of Action Against Small Arms is an annual event that is celebrated by the United Nations, the International Action network on Small Arms (IANSA), the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) and members, the media and right activists around the world to campaign against the proliferation, misuse, dangers, and abuse of Small Arms and Light Weapons that are use to kill, torture and intimidate innocent people around the world, especially women and children.

Activities for the celebration of this year Global Week of Action Against Small Arms include : the engagement of Parliamentarians and Government Officials to support national, regional and international policies to regulate the proliferation of Small Arms, radio talk shows, sticker and poster campaign and a parade in which a statement will be presented to the Liberian Senate to concur with the House of Representatives on the ratification of the ECOWAS Convention on Small Arms and Light weapons, their ammunitions and other related materials.

Activities for the Celebration of this year Global Week of Action against Small Arms in Liberia is under the sponsorship of UNDP Liberia.
