Angola: Country, Portugal Study Mechanisms to Simply Judicial Proceedings

10 June 2008

Luanda — Angola and Portugal are studying mechanisms to simplify the lawsuit proceedings of the judicial system, so as to guarantee a speedy and credible justice for citizens.

At a meeting, held Monday in Luanda, the Justice ministers of Angola and Portugal, respectively Manuel da Costa Aragão and Alberto Costa, discussed this matter baring in mind the negative consequences of delayed judicial decisions, both to citizens and the system itself.

Speaking to the press, the Portuguese official said that the meeting served to analyse the possibility of co-operation in the domain of judicial proceedings simplification, so as to enable citizens to get results, without too many complicated or delayed mechanisms.

In this ambit, the Portuguese Justice minister learnt of the project of connecting the courts in Angola with a computerised network.

On the other hand, the two officials talked about the need to introduce more speed in the constitution of firms in Angola, for which Alberto Costa guaranteed his country's technical support.

Alberto Costa is in Angola to attend the commemorations of the 10 July date, celebrated by Portuguese people as "Day of Portugal, Camões and the Communities".

During his stay in Angola, which ends this Tuesday, he will visit the Guichet Único da Empresa (GUE) (a centre that concentrates several notary and registry services in it), the Luanda Provincial Court, as well as will hold meetings with the diplomatic body accredited in Angola and the Portuguese community in this country.
