Nigeria: Unveiling of the Total Man

10 June 2008

Lagos — In a determined effort to uphold the sanctity of marriage and to rediscover the real man, the Men of Excellence of the Victory House (The Redeemed Christian Church of God), Province three, Festac Town, have packaged a programme that is holding on June 14. The event comes up at the Banquet Hall of the Rockview Hotel, Festac Town.

The Men of Excellence (MoE) is a fellowship for married men within certain age bracket of the church. Members are made up of men who have passion for God. Indeed, MoE admits every married man with no restriction on minimum age. The only age restriction which is on the maximum age is barely for the purpose of distinguishing the Elders of the church from MoE. Therefore, every married man is automatically a member while only the elders are exempted.

The programme which is driven with the poser: 'Where are The Men' is designed to have a distinguished audience of one hundred couples who are formally dressed in suits. The highlight of the event is a talk on "The Total Man", which will be delivered by the guest speaker, Pastor Oyitso Brown, the erudite provincial pastor. The guests will be treated to sumptuous lunch in the cool ambience of the three star hotel. Admission into the programme is strictly by invitation and is for married couples who must come in pairs. Ministers of the Province 3 Headquarters, Area and parish pastors are all expected to be there.

The occasion will also provide unique opportunity to launch the new magazine The 'Total Man' which will be published quarterly henceforth. It is a wholesome general slant magazine that will address a wide range of issues - spiritual, social, economic, leadership, marriage, fashion, politics and others. The vision of the wide spread is that these are the very issues that make up the "Total Man" and thus have to be addressed.

The programme is in the new spirit of the dynamism injected into MoE by the new leadership under Mr. Charles Igbokwe, an accomplished banker.

He said the vision and objectives of the forthcoming programme was derived from the fact that "for too long, The Men of Excellence in our church have taken the back seat. It should not be so because we have a very resourceful pool of virile and talented men who are expressing themselves wonderfully in various fields of endeavour.

"Within our fold, there are highly anointed men of God, lawyers, doctors, engineers and bankers. We also have successful businessmen, military officers, pharmacists, journalists, accountants, surveyors, event managers and others too numerous to mention doing very well in their different fields of endeavour.

"We want every one of them to come out and begin to employ their God-given talents and positions for the sake of humanity. The men of the church have been dormant for too long. In fact, we have allowed the women to take the initiative or be on the driver's seat. This ought not to be because we are the heads of families and only good head can lead well," the leader said.

Igbokwe reiterated that the programme was absolutely in line with the new thinking of the body. "The situation cannot just remain as it was. As the new leaders of the body we came together and agreed that things should change for good. We want to take actions that will impact the church in particular and humanity in general. In due course, there are even greater things we will do," he added.

He also disclosed that MoE would identify with philanthropy by making donations to widows and orphans through the Welfare Department of the Church. Failed marriage is one other area the programme sets to address.

"Too many marriages are failing these days and it happens that some of the parties are our own members. We should be able to do something to restore their marriage".

Above all, Igbokwe said the programme sets out to unveil the virtues of the total man that every man ought to be.
