BRAVE Warriors goalkeeper Athiel Mbaha might be benched when Namibia go up against Guinea in an African Nations/World Cup qualifier at the Independence Stadium on Saturday.
Mbaha is suffering from a groin injury and was yesterday still under medical observation despite joining the team for training.
His deputy, Esau Tjiuoro, who has seen little action in most of the matches since coach Arie Schans took over, will likely be guarding the goalposts.
Namibia's third-choice goalkeeper is youngster Maxmillian Mbaeva, who plays for African Stars and has been training with the team since its campaign for the tournament started.
Credible and experienced goalkeepers such as Arnold Subeb, who plays for FC AK in South Africa, and Ephraim Tjihonge, who turns out for Black Leopards South Africa, have been overlooked.
Schans this week said the communication between his defenders and the goalkeeper makes them concede unnecessary goals and he will look into rectifying the situation.
Also on the injury list is striker Pinehas Jacob, who got a knock in a premiership league match against Black Africa on Tuesday evening.
He is expected to be fit for the encounter, but for now has to fight for the right-wing position with Lazarus Kaimbi, who was axed for the recent encounter against Zimbabwe.
It is not yet known if Tjiuoro will guard the goalposts at the weekend, as the final 18 players will be announced today.
Meanwhile, Warriors team manager Tim Isaacs has confirmed that Guinea has arrived for the encounter.
The team arrived yesterday at lunchtime.
Guinea is holding the table in Group 2 of the qualifiers with only a single point and will be hoping to restore their lost pride against the hosts.
Guinea drew 1-all against Namibia in the African Nations Cup earlier this year and considering their current position on the log, they will aim for a victory.

Namibia have three points from their win over Kenya and having home-ground advantage, attacking football will be on their minds to increase their chances of going through to the next round.
