Liberia: Senator Under Probe for Massacre

Benjamin B. Sworh

13 June 2008

Monrovia — Margibi County Senator Roland Kaine was Thursday invited by the Ministry of Justice in connection with the massacre of more than 13 persons in Bassa Town, Margibi County.

Senator Kaine was called to assist the police with investigation over circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Director of Price Analysis at the Ministry of Commerce, Charles Bennie had accused Senator Kaine of masterminding the killings of men who had gone to work on his father's farm.

Speaking at the police headquarters on Capitol Hill, Senator Kaine denied that he masterminded the killings.

Senator Kaine said he would cooperate with police to facilitate the investigation.

The Margibi County Senator was accompanied to the Police headquarters by four of his Senate colleagues Gloria Scott, Abel Massalay, Frederick Cherue and James Momo.

Kaine said he was concerned about the number of persons who lost their lives.

Earlier, Senate President Pro-tempore Isaac Nyenabo disclosed that the Justice Ministry wrote plenary requesting it to allow Senator Kaine to assist with the investigation into the massacre of the men.

Nyenabo described the act as disastrous, barbaric and called on the Justice Ministry to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.

A survivor of the massacre, Moko Gibson, said he and his colleagues were attacked last Saturday by men using AK-47 raffles and machetes.

I hope the Ministry of Justice will leave no stone unturn in the on going investigation of the incident that took 13 innocent lives in Margibi, the home county of Jr. senator Roland Kaine. The public will be anxious to know the outcome of that investigation for two major reasons; Roland Kaine is a strong supporter of Ghanga Taylor while Charles Bennie was the spoksman for the rebel organization that chased Taylor out of town.

The first thought that came to mind when I read the article was that the government should get involved to arrest the situation immediately. The… [Read Full Text]

Thanks to God that the two individuals involved in this barbaric, brutal fragal that took lives of fellow Liberians are under investigation. Do these men and thier henchmen think that Liberia is stay under the years of their cruelty? Now with ugly acts like these reappearing, one would wonder if the so-called True and Reconciliattion Commisssion really worth its existance when infact, the very people who perpetrated mayhem and slaughtered thousands of Liberians went to the Republic of Ghana and set up these political machinations to protect themselves against retribution. Now that they are at the brime… [Read Full Text]

This is for the Liberian Government: Why should these sort of things be happening? Harmless people working for the daily bread and school fees of their children being killed. Do you know how many families have been destroyed by these babarians. Mind you our brothers and sisters are being forced by African governments especially the Ghanain government to go home. They do not have any choice but to cross the border and face these killers parading as civilians. There has been no precedence set on any armed robber, killer or rapist. No wonder why they are being enboldened. Where did… [Read Full Text]

Most of our Lawmakers are formers fighters or linked to some killing group. These are the people that are causing problems for our country. These generals still have people who are loyal to them and because of that they go about with their lawless behavior. Let those that are responsible for the death of those 13 persons be brought to justice. People should not use their positions to take other poeple lives.Lawmakers should learn to be role model and not lawbreakers. Luckygirl2021
