Zimbabwe: Police Ordered to Bring Biti to Court

AN opposition Movement for Democratic Change lawyer says a Zimbabwe High Court judge has ordered police to bring the jailed secretary general of their party to court on Saturday.

Lawyer Selby Hwacha said Friday the High Court order came in response to a plea by the MDC-T party to release Tendai Biti who was arrested at Harare airport on his return from South Africa and the region.

According to Hwacha the judge ordered police to explain why Tendai Biti should not be immediately released.

Police have not revealed where Biti is being saying he faces treason charges, which can carry the death penalty or life imprisonment.
