Northern Youth Peace Forum, an NGO has appealed to Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to withdraw the case against President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua, pending appeal at the Supreme Court.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the duo have appealed the ruling of the presidential election petitions tribunal which upheld the election of Yar'Adua during the 2007 general elections.

Buhari was the Presidential Candidate of ANPP while Atiku was the flag bearer of the AC during the polls.

The Forum made the plea yesterday in Sokoto during a courtesy call on the state Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko and the second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Shagari.

National Coordinator of the Forum, Alhaji Zannah Mustapha, said the youths sincerely plead with Buhari and Atiku to reconsider their stand.

"This is to move this country forward .Our stand is for the betterment of the north and the interest of Nigeria.

"They should withdraw their appeal as it is God who gives power to whom He pleases ," the National Coordinator added.

Mustapha also said that the Forum was concerned with the deplorable state of infrastructure in the north, especially roads.

The region, he added is also bedeviled by unemployment, poor health services, poor education facilities and inadequate electric supply.

Mustapha noted that it was only democracy can peace and unity be attained.

The Forum further commended Yar'Adua for ensuring stability in the fuel supply situation in the nation, adding that the security situation in the country was now better.

Mustapha stated that the Forum would take their campaign to the door steps of the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Northern Union Leaders , the Sultan of Sokoto, Emirs, Chiefs and religious leaders.
