Angola: Guinean President in Luanda for Cooperation Reinforcement

Guinea-Bissau's Head of State, João Bernardo Vieira, arrived on Sunday evening in Luanda, to fulfil a 24-hour work visit to Angola, aimed to reinforce the existing bilateral cooperation between both states.

The Guinean statesman, who was received at Luanda's 4 de Fevereiro International Airport by the Angolan Foreign Affairs minister, João Bernardo Miranda, was also accompanied by his wife, Isabel Romana Vieira, and various members of his executive.

After his arrival, the Guinea-Bissauan President was also saluted with military honours presented by the presidential guard.

"Nino Vieira", who did not speak to the press, also received welcome greetings from Guineans residing in Luanda, a group made up by over 100 people, who gathered in the zone opposite to the airport's presidential complex with posters saying things like "Mr President the Guinean people is with you".

Meanwhile, according to the programme of visit which has reached Angop, on Monday morning João Bernardo Vieira will meet in private with the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, with whom he will analyse various aspects of bilateral interest.

Around 01.00 p.m, the Angolan President will offer his Guinean counterpart an official lunch which is to end at 2:30 p.m, and then the farewell ceremony occurs in the Presidential Palace.

The end of the Guinean President's visit to Angola is set for 3:30 p.m this Monday. The Angolan Foreign Affairs minister will bid Nino Vieira farewell. The Guinean statesman will travel to Benin, where he will also fulfil a state mission.

Guinea-Bissau is a country which is situated in the western coast of Africa, bordered on the north by Senegal, on the east by Guinea Conakry, on the south and west by the Atlantic Ocean, and apart from the continental territory, it has over 80 islands which constitutes the Bijagos archipelago, and separated from the continent by the Geba River canals.
