Uganda: Desire Woos Fans

She has a great body and nobody can deny that- while launching her maiden album, 'Nkomyewo', last Friday at Hotel Africana, Desire Luzinda put her body to full use, and every time a new song started- she pulled a few strokes and won herself wild cheers from the crowd.

With the venue filled to capacity, it was amazing also to see just how many hearts this artiste has won in just a short reign of her career.

But those that attended this show will bear me witness that somehow there was something lacking in her performance, regardless of her good voice. First things first, she started with too much energy and as the show went on, she was gasping for more breath and could not help but hit flat notes.

The stage though, was attractive. Her outfit was a simmering red Indian dress like that of the belly dancers in Timberland's videos. Truth be told, the physical outlook of this show was glamorous.

Maybe we need not blame her so much, for this was her first show and she was also performing most of her songs live. With three female backup singers and two notorious queen dancers, who also put up great performance, Desire tried her best to engage the audience.

At several occasions, she implored fans to come nearby and dance with her- but they did not come until she sang 'Nkomyewo'- this was the most interesting part of the show as female fans came to shower her with money- perhaps the song had something in common with their personal lives.

It was the gateway to other songs such as 'Nzikiriza', 'Mubiite', 'Baswaze', 'Kankutwale.' The curtain raisers also did not disappoint. The Blu*3 trio really charmed the crowd. Bebe Cool seemingly high on something also moved revellers. Bobi Wine made a fashion statement with his all-through white attire.

Guest performer, K-ylinn was fair enough, though her short blue party dress restricted her movements. Other artistes that performed at the Club beer-sponsored event included HB Toxic, Sarah Zawedde, Mega Dee to mention but a few.
