Gaborone — Gaborone Village Chief Magistrate Lot Moroka has reserved judgement in an application for bail, to June 18 in a case in which 10 people are accused of stealing P17 million from Central Medical Stores (CMS) in what the state alleges to be a cross-border crime.
The accused persons appeared before Moroka only for the accused persons' lawyers to demand that their clients, who have been in custody for 14 days, be given bail pending trial. However, the prosecution, led by deputy Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Phadi Solomon, principal prosecution officers Merapelo Mokgosi and Priscilla Israel, opposed the bail, application, arguing that investigations are still continuing and that if granted bail the suspects were likely to interfere with investigations.
