Kigali — The body of the Rwandan peacekeeper who died last week in the troubled Sudanese western region of Darfur is expected to arrive in the country today, the military spokesman Maj. Jill Rutaremara has said.

Cpl Jean-Marie Vianney Nsengiyumva died on June 10, in Khartoum, Sudan, after a short illness. His body will arrive at 12:50 aboard a Kenya Airways plane.

Rutaremara said the fallen soldier's body will be accompanied by Maj. Alphonse Safari and the burial ceremony will take place on Thursday, June 19 at Kanombe Military Cemetery.

Cpl Nsengiyumva joined the army on May 12, 1995. He is survived by a widow and two children. Nsengiyumva is the second RDF peacekeeper to die since the formation of UN-AU hybrid joint peacekeeping force, and the twelfth RDF peacekeeper to die in the war-torn Darfur since the troops were deployed there in August, 2004.
