Kuito — Twenty nine fields mined with various explosive devices shall be cleared in the second half of the current year, in southern Bié province, by the British NGO The HALO Trust.
ANGOP learnt of the information on Wednesday from the NGO's operations director,António Pinto Braza, whilst analysing the activities implemented in the region during the first.
The director referred that landmines clearance works shall be carried out in mined fields of Kuito, Katabola, Kamacupa, Nharea, Chitembo, Kunhinga and Andulo, adding that the NGO will also expand its operations to Chinguar district.
António Pinto Braza assured that, during the first quarter of the current year, The HALO Trust cleared 126,335 square metres in this region, and has also removed 466 different explosive devices.
The referred explosive devices, according to the head of operations of The HALO Trust, were deactivated and collected in the districts of Kuito, Andulo, Kunhinga, Katabola, Kamacupa and Chitembo.
He also referred that during the same period his institution marked two mined fields in the districts of Kuito and Kunhinga, with 200,000 square metres each.
The source also informed that his NGO managed to sensitise, in the same period, 1,889 residents, from which 499 were men, 600 women and 790 children at every district of Bié, on the dangers of landmines.
