There was a big party in Gulu over the weekend and it was dominated by a lot of drinks and entertainment. Right, it was the Pilsner Passa Passa Dance competition and all the action was at Buganda Pub Gulu on June 14.
It was the second national do and the winners were given Pilsner goodies as well as a Boom Box, which they can use to practice for the national Pilsner Passa Passa competition.
The winners of the competition in Gulu were Jimmy Ogen and Francisco Ojok of the Heavenly Dance group. The dance competition was launched on May June and it will be rocking countrywide.
Passa Passa is a term used to describe dancing to dancehall music - it is a high energy and physically intensive dancing with an attitude.
You'll remember the early 1980s when break dance was popular.
This was the time when dancing was taken out of the class room where formal dance was taught into the streets - where young men and women competed to win the admiration and appreciation of their peers.
Passa Passa is the latest baby of break dancing - it involves creating moves that your competitors have to imitate and beat. Officials from the competition sponsors, Uganda Breweries Ltd, said that they decided to sponsor the dance competition as a noble cause to create a forum for skilled dancers to demonstrate their skills.
