The Euro Africa Group Ltd, the country's major fuel importer, has assured that gas oil supply would be restored by this Friday, and that with the new state-of-the-earth Gampetroleum storage facility, fuel shortage will be history in the country.
In a press release sent to the Daily Observer, the group also revealed that Gampetroleum would start operation around July 15.
The release came in the wake of an acute scarcity in gas oil, which hit the country early this week. The group blamed the shortage in gas oil on an apparent drop in the "quantities of supply to the neighbouring countries and a delay in loading a boat" at the SIR Refinery in Abidjan, Cote d'Ivoiré.

This is to inform the general public that gas oil supply in The Gambia will be back to normal on Friday, 20th June, 2008.
The shortage of gas oil is due to the quantities that have been supplied to the neighboring countries and due to the delay in loading a boat at the SIR Refinery in Abidjan.
Therefore, we would like to announce that Gampetroleum will be operational around 15th July, 2008, and with the new storage capacity, we assure the public that the fuel oil problem in the country will be history.
Once again, we apologise to the public for any inconvenience that is caused by the delay of the vessel and we would also re-confirm that the fuel oil supply in The Gambia will be steady and stable.
