Nigeria coach Shaibu Amodu has warned that his team are just getting warmed up for action after they became the first team to qualify for the CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2010 this weekend.
The Super Eagles consolidated their leadership of Group 4 with goals from Yakubu Aiyegbeni and Ikechukwu Uche in a 2-0 home win over Equatorial Guinea on Saturday.
Nigeria are unbeaten in four matches with two rounds of games to spare in this qualifying tournament which serves both for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa and the CAF Africa Cup of Nations in Angola.
Amodu, who returned for the third time as Nigeria coach in April, said he was delighted the team have continued to improve since posting a disappointing outing at this year's Nations Cup in Ghana.
"It was an improved performance (against Equatorial Guinea)," Amodu said. "We are gradually regaining confidence and that can only be good for us. We have room to improve and we will continue to do so on our way back to the top."
Sections of the local press have been critical of the team despite their perfect record in this qualifying campaign, arguing that they still find it hard to score resulting in narrow wins over Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea.
Before the match against Equatorial Guinea in Abuja, three of the team's four goals were scored by defenders, but Amodu has insisted that what is important is that the team are winning.

"It does not matter whether it is the defenders or the strikers who are scoring the goals," he said. "What is most important is that the team is winning."
