Ilorin — Nigeria Ambassador to the Royal Kingdom of Netherlands, Dr Nimota Nihinola Akanbi, has reiterated her commitment to strengthening the relationship between Nigeria and Netherlands.
Akanbi said she is committed to enhancing the seven-point agenda of President Umaru Yar'Adua.
She said this in a statement issued by the Information Section, The Embassy of Nigeria, The Hague, and sent to Thisday in Ilorin, yesterday, while presenting her letters of credence to Her Majesty, Queen Beatrix of the Royal Kingdom of the Netherlands.
She said President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua would not deviate from its seven-point agenda, so as to bring a new lease of life to Nigerians.
Akanbi said the relationship between the two countries should not be seen only in the light of Shell operations in Nigeria, adding that the bilateral scope should be enlarged to ensure that inter-governmental discussions are held at least once in a year.
She said the inter-governmental relations "is expected to bring to focus, other issues relating to agriculture, power and energy, health, science and technology, transportation, tourism and trade investment that would be beneficial to the two countries in the long run."
Akanbi also advocated special consideration for Nigeria from the Dutch government, for being the largest market for its products in Africa, pointing out that over 27 Dutch companies are fully operational in Nigeria and called on Nigerians in the Netherlands to be law-abiding in their legitimate business and avoid acts capable of bringing disrepute to their home country.
