Nairobi — A record 10 races marks this year's Starehe Boys Centre annual race meeting sponsored once again by Kenya Shell in conjunction with a number of corporation organisations at Ngong Racecourse on Sunday afternoon.

And coming just a week after the colourful Barclays Bank Race Day, Sunday's meeting is likely to attract yet another big crowd. Over 4,000 were in attendance during the Barclays Bank Day where the Julie McCann trained Executrix walked away with the Italian Cup, leaving Al Borak a length and half away in second place.

Starehe founder

The four-year-old Executrix will be in action again this afternoon this time in the Dr Geoffrey Griffin Cup over 1,800m, a race which is in memory of the late Geoffrey Griffin, founder of the Starehe Boys Centre.

This time around, Executrix will be meeting runners such as Intwa Dumella also a winner recently.

But going by her performance last Sunday, Executrix may carry the day again here with Intwa Dumella likely to finish very closely.

The day's top race will be the Kenya Shell St. Leger over 2,800m which is the last of the three year old classics. As per tradition, it has attracted all the top three-year-old runners including the Business Daily Derby champion Warai who has not been seen at Ngong since that two lengths victory over Ten Thirty in the April Derby meeting.

It is to be assumed, however, that Warai has been keeping his winning magic intact and if that is the case, then is a likely hood of a repeat show between Warai and Ten Thirty with Chinook who claimed the Standard Chartered Kenya Oaks an equivalent of the Derby for female runners last month also worth considering.

Deakin Memorial Bowl

It's a crowded race with very many of those who ran in the Derby also being paraded such as Rototag, Mulligan and Olympic Spirit, although I still have faith on Warai.

Another battle it expected between Holy Fountain and Ocean Spirit in the UAP Insurance Handicap for the Harry Deakin Memorial Bowl over 1,000m while Pirates Coup has a good chance of toppling among others Sumerian and Parodia in the Safaricom Hotspot for the Nakuru Champion Stakes.

Because of the big race card action gets under way from 12.30 pm with lots of entertainment also lined up for the day.
