Nigeria's Ambassador to Indonesia, Alhaji Ibrahim Baba Mai-Sule has presented his letter of credence to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.
The ceremony, held at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, was witnessed by top government functionaries, according to a statement emailed to Sunday Trust from the Nigerian Embassy in Jakarta. Mai-Sule's presentation was done along with the ambassadors of Japan, Britain and India.
After the ceremony, Mai-Sule proceeded to Solo, Central Java Province, to present a paper on Asia-Africa Relationship with particular reference to Nigeria. The discussion group was organized by Research and Planning Department of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
He traced the relationship between Indonesia and Nigeria to 1965 when Indonesia opened its embassy in Lagos and Nigeria reciprocated in 1976.
Mai-Sule emphasized the need to strengthen the relationship of the two through stronger economic ties and suggested the idea of Indonesia-Nigeria Joint Commission to help fast track conclusion of pending bilateral agreements.
He added that this will build on the South-South Cooperation the two nations are at the forefront of promoting.
