Nigeria: American, African Stars for Abuja Grand Prix

The main bowl of the Abuja National Stadium will today play host to the third edition of the Abuja Grand Prix, which is expected to feature some of the best athletes in the world.

Fifteen events have been lined up for the one day fiesta that has received the blessing of the International Athletics Federa-tion and upgraded to a Super Grand Prix by the international athletics body.

Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) Media Coordina-tor, Ben Ahiante said in a state-ment in Abuja that already 90 athletes from over 15 countries have sent in their entries for the event.

He named some of the top star athletes that will be on parade in today's Grand Prix as current Olympic gold medalist in triple jump women, Francoise Mbango Etone of Cameroon; African Championship 400 metres men gold medalist Ngamedlin Ali Abubakar of Sudan; Triple jumper Johana Trevio of Columbia; Debrian Blaton of USA and compatriot Quasheba Lee.

Other athletes that will feature in today's events are Nigeria's Olusoji Fasuba, Obinna Metu, Uchenna Emedolu, Goddy James, Deji Aliu Joy Eze, Endu-rance Ojokolo, Gloria Kemasode, Demola Osayomi and Vivian Chukwuemeka.
