Luanda — Cranes players yesterday experienced a sense of de javu when their scheduled 2010 African Nations Cup/World Cup qualifier against Angola's Palancas Negras was postponed because the match officials from Nigeria had not yet arrived in Luanda.
Centre referee Alex Sule, 44, and his assistants Zubairu Sami (38) and Andrew Iroro (30) were still stranded at the Oliver Tambo International Airport at the time the game was supposed to kick off.
Match commissioner Gomo Marcel from Congo-Brazzavile yesterday held a six-hour meeting with the two teams' representatives at the Tropical Hotel and it was resolved that the game should take place today.
The match has been switched to the 8,000-seat Coqueiros Stadium
Last year, a scheduled qualifier against Lesotho in Maseru was postponed from a Saturday to Tuesday and the Cranes were held to a goalless draw.
Cranes coach Laszlo Csaba has chosen to give Geoffrey Massa his first game of the campaign, so David Obua is to revert to his traditional role on the left side of midfield.
Angola coach Luis Oliveira Gonçalves is expected to field Gilberto and Jamuana.
Possible lineups:
Angola: Lamá, Jamuana, LocÃ', Rui Marques, Yamba, Mendonça, Gilberto, André Macanga (cpt), Zé Kalanga, Love Kabungula and Flávio Amado.
Cranes: D. Onyango, A.Mwesigwa, Nestory Kizito, T. Batabaire, Ibrahim Sekagya (cpt), Johnson Bagoole, D. Wagaluka, Mike Serumaga, Eugene Sseppuuya, David Obua, Geoffrey Massa.
