African governments have been called upon to put in place necessary interventions to ensure that the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) are attained.
A resolution by some children in Ghana on the occasion of the 'Day of the African Child', facilitated by Abibiman Foundation, referred to the MDGs as Children Development Goals, as they have a strong focus on children and young people.
"Goal 1-Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, Goal 2-Achieve universal primary education, Goal 4-Reduce child mortality, Goal 6-Comabt HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, Goal 7-Ensure environmental sustainability. These refer explicitly to us."
The resolution described the theme for this year's celebration, "Right to Participation: Let Children be Seen and Heard" as appropriate in relation to children's fundamental rights enshrined in Ghana's constitution and all other relevant national and international protocols, conventions and treaties.
However, the children said there are mountains of shortfalls in their entitlements to economic, social, cultural and political rights and these make it difficult for them to live their dreams compared to their peers in the developed countries.
"We the children of Ghana and Africa constitute the majority of the population and represent the future and aspirations of the continent. As Ghanaians prepare to go to polls, we entreat political parties to convince us that they have the solution to our numerous problems affecting our livelihoods."

The children called on all relevant stakeholders including civil society to support the formulation of the "Young People's Manifesto" initiative Abibiman Foundation is currently working on.
