Kigali — The national football team the Amavubi Stars have confirmed their participation in this year's Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will be held from November 8-23 in Kampala, Uganda, the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) secretariat has confirmed.
The Cecafa Secretary General Nicholas Musonye told Times Sport over the weekend that the annual challenge cup will be played in November instead of the usual December.
"We have inspected facilities in Kampala and I can confirm that the regional tournament will be held in November," Musonye said.
Musonye added that the hosting stadiums, Namboole and Nakivubo are in good shape to host the two-week long tournament.
"We expect this year's tournament to be more successful compared to last year's edition held in Tanzania.
"Competition was of a high standard in Tanzania and we expect the same or even a more in Kampala," the Cecafa SG noted.
Musonye confirmed that all the eleven Cecafa member countries already have confirmed participation and they will be joined by one guest country.
The 11-member countries forming Cecafa are Kenya, Tanzania, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Zanzibar, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Djibouti and Uganda.
He went ahead, "We hope to invite a guest country, probably from the Middle East to spice up the event but those details will be discussed by the executive committee meet during the Kagame Cup championship."
Last year, Cecafa signed a five-year contract with British Satellite Broadcaster; GTV worth $5 million.
