Rwanda: It's a Family Affair At Inaugural Badminton Tourney

Kigali — Grace Rugerinyage and Emmanuel Byiringiro won the inaugural badminton tournament held over the weekend at Novotel.

Rugerinyage defeated one Katharina Scheiner by two sets to one to claim the ladies' singles title while her brother, Byiringiro beat Jagan 2-1 to the men's.

In doubles, Jagan and Rakesh defeated Manu and Shijid 2-0 in the final game while in the mixed doubles final, Rugerinyage and Rakesh beat Manu Mellupla and Hatel Patel in two straight sets.

The guest of honor was Rwanda National Olympics Committee vice president Pierre Clever Rwaka awarded Wilson rackets and a six month membership courtesy of Novotel to winners in all categories and six month memberships to the first runner-ups.

Andrew Ndayambaje the event organizing chairman thanked the sponsors Novotel and participants for their efforts in making the event a success.
