The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) community was yesterday thrown into confusion and grief as two of its senior staff, Mr. Izevbigie Osawaru and his wife, Aisosa were murdered in their Osagbogie residence, off Adolor College Road, Ugbowo, in the state capital by unidentified killers.

While Mr. Izevbivie Osawaru was an accountant in the Internal Audit Department of the hospital and secretary of the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU) UBTH branch, his wife, Aisosa was a pharmacist, attached to the Pharmacy Department of the institution.

Vanguard gathered that the killers who first killed Mrs. Osarawu in her sleep, before murdering the husband, in the presence of their children left immediately without removing anything from the house.

The motive of the killings of the couple remains unknown just as the Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Peter Ogboi when contacted said that he was yet to be briefed on the incident by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Ugbowo Police Station.

However, confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer (PRO), University of Benin Teaching Hospital, (UBTH), Mrs. Kehinde Ibotoye, said that the couple was at work last weekend.

Mrs. Ibitoye who could not hold back her tears while speaking with Vanguard, described the killing as dastardly and described the couple as hardworking and well respected by their colleagues.

Mr. and Mrs. Osawaru who were said to have been married since 2000 and were blessed with four children with the eldest in primary one.
