Uganda: Ddungu Promises to Clean House

Kampala — ROGER Ddungu is expected to reshuffle his executive today to stem discontent in the boxing federation.

The local boxing body president has called a press conference at which he is expected to state his position on the feud brewing with some clubs calling for his resignation.

Ddungu, who had taken a low profile as his critics petitioned him and his executive for non performance, yesterday said that some political agitators he did not name had misled some clubs hence the chaos and he was out to set everything straight and also reorganise his executive.

"At this time, we need a stronger executive. I will release the names tomorrow," said Ddungu who added: "I did not change anything in the constitution. What I only did was to register it with the registrar of companies to strengthen its legal status."

He said he expected his new executive members to be more committed to building the game than infighting, an indication to the exit of organising secretary Charles Kiiza, who has been at the forefront of the campaign to see Ddungu out.

"I think they have had their own agenda. They are peddling lies instead of analysing the constitution and knowing their roles and line of duties," he said.

Seventeen clubs had petitioned National Council of Sports (NCS) calling for Ddungu's resignation for failure to hold activities, tampering with the constitution and failure to hold a general assembly.

"We had the national open and junior championships and also participated in the Olympic Qualifiers," Ddungu elaborated.

"I think these are activities. I can not also call for an assembly when the members are not paid up. That becomes an illegal gathering."
