Nairobi — Police in Tana River District have recovered two firearms and several rounds of ammunition in the ongoing initiative to reconcile warring clans.
Speaking on the phone, Tana River police boss, Mr Iregi Ngatia said that the Wardei and Orma communities were responding well to the initiative spearheaded by the provincial administration.
Brings to six
"Members of the Orma community from Dayate Manyatta in Hola on Tuesday surrendered an AK-47 rifle and a magazine with three rounds," said the OCPD.
He said that members of the Wardei community had on Sunday afternoon surrendered a G3 rifle and three rounds of ammunition during a private meeting with the area's DC.
"This brings to six the number of firearms surrendered in two months ... four others were surrendered last month," said Mr Ngatia.
Elsewhere, three people are fighting for their lives after the bus they were travelling in overturned and landed on its side on Sunday.
According to Mr Ngatia, the Garrisa Star bus was travelling along the Hola-Garsen road from Garissa to Mombasa when the driver lost its control and it skidded off the road at Kokane.
Sought refuge
"The bus was carrying 50 passengers, and 21 of them were injured," said Mr Ngatia. The three are admitted to Ngao Mission Hospital, where the slightly injured were treated and discharged.
At the same time, a woman and her two children have sought refuge at a neighbour's house at Shauri Moyo Estate in Kipini Division after her husband set their house ablaze and fled after a domestic quarrel.
Police are looking for the 30-year-old man.
