Sokoto State Governor Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has expressed displeasure with the state Ministry of Water Resources over the perennial water shortage in the state capital.
He has also expressed concern over the poor condition of the state's specialist hospital despite the huge amount expended by the government on the two. He made his feelings known when he paid inspection visits to both the Ali Akilu Water Pumping station and the Specialist Hospital,Sokoto Monday.
At the water station where he inspected the construction work of the new water storage tanks, the governor who expressed concern over the inability of the water board to ensure supply of water in the metropolis, attributed the problem to the laxity of those entrusted with the responsibility. He said government would not tolerate such laxity and directed those concerned to ensure adequate supply of water to people as determined by his administration. Alhaji Wamakko questioned the failure of the contractor handling the water storage tanks to complete the work on schedule and directed the company to hasten the completion of the projects to ensure steady supply of water. At the Specialist Hospital , the governor directed the state Ministry of Health to ensure adequate provision of water and electricity at the hospital in the next one week and ordered the immediate release of drugs procured by his administration for distribution to pregnant women and children. He told the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Health to ensure full implementation of the state government's Drug Revolving Fund through the distribution of drugs to the hospitals. According to him, the state government has already procured drugs under the drug revolving fund programme for distribution to all hospitals in the state which would be sold to patients at subsidized rates.
