Lagos — Monday, 23rd of June, 2008 will remain indelible in the memory of Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine's new signing, Emmanuel Okoduwa having escaped from the jaws of death after dare devil armed robbers gave him a dose of what an average Nigerian resident in the country goes through almost always.
The player who narrated his ordeal to Mega Sports on Star 101.5 FM yesterday morning was close to tears when explaining what he went through in the hands of the men of the underworld who took everything that was on him except his pants and singlet.
'It was a terrible experience I don't wish for anyone I love. I had gone to the international airport to board a flight back to Ukraine only to be told that it was rescheduled. So, on our way back home from the airport, to be specific at Satellite Town , we saw three men who pretended to be fixing their faulty motorbike (Okada) on one side of the road because the other side was bad.
As we tried to slow down and meander our way through the portion of the road, they pounced on me and my friend who drove the car. Before we knew what was happening, they brought out a gun, ordered us to move to the back seat and dispossessed us of valuables that included my international passport, European work permit, gold, wrist watches, ten thousand dollars, phones, and clothes among others."
The player who is in the country to prosecute the Super Eagles World and Nations Cup qualifiers said it was a commando-like operation as the robbers vowed to 'waste' them if they made any move to resist.
'The operation was swiftly executed. Thank God for good Samaritans who gave us clothes to cover ourselves after the robbers were done with their dastardly act. It was painful but I thank God that we did not resist, if not, they would have shot at us and anything could have happened. Nigeria remains my country and whatever may have happened will not affect the love for the nation."Okoduwa stressed.
Emmanuel Okoduwa has not feature in any of the qualifying matches for the World and Nations Cup since the Super Eagles began their journey to South Africa/Angola 2010 because of an injury which is gradually healing.
