Nigeria: National Mosque Rehabilitation Near Completion

Abuja — The Abuja national mosque renovation work is to be completed very soon, Daily Trust can report. The rehabilitation contract was awarded to A &K construction company in November 2007 at the cost of N752 million with a period of 40 weeks (ten months) to complete.

Two months into the contract time, there are signals the job would be completed on schedule.

The Project Supervisory Team leader, the Resident Quantity Surveyor, Muhammed Kabir declined to comment. He told Daily Trust that the chairman of the mosque Management Board, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe is the one who can do that.

Confirming to Daily Trust, a reliable source in the PST who does not want his name in print said, "The job is on course and the contractors are quite aware of the schedule.

They are working round the clock. The work will be concluded on schedule before the Ramadan fast."

When Daily Trust went round, over 90% of the job has been coompleted. The interior and outside works on the main mosque had been completed except the outer works on the four huge minarets. The rug carpets had been removed for replacement and the administrative block was getting finishing torches as well as the five gates being erected.

The guest house, Muazzin, including the Executive Secretary's residence and the ablution centres had long be completed.
