Liberia: Human Rights Center Wants Sen. Kaine Suspended

Monrovia — The National Human Rights Center of Liberia (NHRC) has called on the Liberian Senate to suspend Margibi Senator Roland Kaine from office pending his exoneration of murder charges

The group's National Coordinator Alfred Quajandi said the alleged involvement of Mr. Kaine in the massacre of over a dozen citizens has the propensity to taint the image of the Liberian senate.

Quajandi maintained that the Senator Kaine striped of his post and immunities.

"Suspension and seizure of Senator Kaine's immunities would prevent the senate from wasting its financial resources and save the image of that august body," Quajandi told this paper Wednesday in Monrovia.

He said it was unfortunate and embarrassing for a senior government official who should be advocating for the protection of the people to be linked to such gruesome act.

Quajandi pointed out that it would also be a disservice to the state and its people for the senator to receive his benefits while undergoing prosecution.

The Human Rights Activist called for a speedy trial into the murder case involving Senator Kaine and others, adding that, this would bring relief to the victims' families.

Recently, more than 14 persons were discovered dead in Bassa Town in Margibi County.

The victims were hired by Mr. Charles Bennie to under brush his rubber farm but men believed to be supported by the senator unleashed terror on them while executing their duty.

The senator and 13 others have been charged with murder pending trial at the Robertsports Magisterial Court in Grand Cape Mount County.

The Human Rights group is right for Sen.Kaine's suspension and this should send a signal out to the other lawmakers that are tainted with human blood. It is a shame for people that the country depend on to be the same ones to be in the forefront when it comes to killing the same people that they represent.I think these lawmakers are only concerned about themselves and those warlords that are members of House and Senate should be closely watch. Those that are investigating this case should not let anyone bribe them.We are not are war and people have been killed for land that we are only keeping for decoration. We cannot even plant corn on the land that we have but we are able to kill for it. Kaine should be investigated. Luckgirl2021
