Angola: Culture Minister Comments On Book for Democratisation

Luanda — Angola's Minister of Culture, Boaventura Cardoso, on Thursday here said book, as a key support in development of creativity and children personality, makes possible the practice of democracy.

He said so while speaking at the second edition of the Child Book Garden, having underlined that literary work makes possible democracy, as it gives possibility of the citizen to be informed, communicate, debate and participate in citizenship practice.

Thus, reading and book democratization, as well as access to knowledge, focused on this edition of Child Book Garden, must not only be a government concern but of all civil society, such as family, school and community.

The minister of Culture said that family should be the active agent in the promotion of reading habit and school must revive book and reading as the basic element of social transformation and promotion of moral values and thus it would be desirable that all teaching facilities have a library.

The infantile book garden that started in 1979 and halted for 10 years is taking place for the second time this year. It was opened on Thursday and is due to end on Sunday.
