Kampala — It is now official. The Danfo Drivers (Mad Melon and Mountain Black), popular for their runaway hit, Kpolongo (Shout it out) are in town for a series of shows. The two Nigerians will stage a show at the Kati Kati grounds tonight for sh40,000 (VIP) and sh15,000 for the rest.
A family show on Sunday at Gaba Beach will set revellers back by sh10,000 and sh5000 for children. The duo will then head to Arua's Hill View Hotel on July 5 with revellers parting with sh20,000 (VIP) and others sh10,000.
According to Emmanuel Onuoha of the artistes' promotions company, Paragon Promoters, Kampala VIP tickets can be bought from the Imperial Group of Companies hotels. The rest will be sold at the entrances. To open the show will be artistes Henry Tigan, Mozey Radio, Weasal, Phina Mugerwa, Grace Nakimera, David Lutalo (Kapapala), Stingerz Dancers and theViva Stars. The shows are sponsored by Moonberg Lager, the Imperial Hotels, Dembe FM, Amob Italian Shop, Record TV and Nile FM in Arua.
Onuoha says the Danfo Drivers rose from a ghetto background and this is reflected in their laid-back style of music which appeals to the common man. Done in a local Nigerian dialect and English, Kpolongo has taken Uganda's local FM stations and clubs by storm.
